Front About this Home...

94 Park Road is a unique, custom, tastefully-appointed, single family contemporary home based on an original English cape style home that marries the charm and character of a traditional New England home with the modern features and conveniences expected in homes today. Originally constructed in 1941 from a Sears Honor-Bilt Home kit (The Ridgeland), the house was a 900 square foot (approx.) home with three-bedrooms, one bath, a galley kitchen, dining room, and living room and was described by Sears as follows: “The Ridgeland is a story and a half English type home in which the details of the front gable projection and a fireplace chimney play an important part in the exterior appearance.”

The home was expanded dramatically in 2004 to approximately 2,716 square feet of finished space with an additional 1,500 square feet of unfinished space on the basement level, along with a garage. The charm and character of most of the original home’s first floor has been preserved as is evidenced by its understated appearance from the front; however, the significant expansion is visible when viewing from all other sides and is characterized by a light and open feel. The light feel is accentuated by the many windows that bring the surrounding trees right into the home.

   Back View

Specifically, the home’s original foyer, living room (with wood burning fireplace), dining room (with built in corner cabinets), downstairs bedroom and stairway are all original with stained wood trim moldings and oak hardwood flooring. Those original design elements are carried through the newer areas of the home that was thoughtfully designed for maximum functionality and flexibility including an updated full bathroom (with slate flooring, soaker tub and pedestal sink), an updated kitchen (with island), a light first-floor office, a large family room (with tray ceilings, a casual dining area, a gas fireplace, and wired for surround sound), a large game/playroom that can be separated from the family room area by pocket doors; a large deck off the family room provides integrated outdoor living space. The second floor maintains the character of the original home with moldings and baseboards crafted to match those found on the first floor, and includes two large bedrooms (one with a window seat), a linen closet, a second full bathroom (with pedestal sink), and a large master suite that includes another gas fireplace in the large bedroom, tray ceilings, a walk in closet with an additional cedar closet element, and a full master bathroom with striking barreled ceiling, shower, jacuzzi tub, and pedestal sink.

The overall footprint of the house is approximately 38’ by 44’ that maintains the original block foundation for the older section of the structure and a poured concrete foundation for the newer areas. The older section basement has new vinyl flooring, ample storage, and is set up for laundry and a mudroom, as well as a work-shop. The newer areas of the foundation level include an efficient storage area with built in shelves, and a large unfinished room that can be used as another office, bedroom, or workout room (it is also roughed for a toilet drain). The remainder of the foundation level serves as an oversized one-car garage.

In terms of utilities, the home operates on town water, town sewer, natural gas, electric, and both fiber and cable data lines. It has a new natural gas furnace that heats a 70-gallon hot water tank supplies heat to a two-zone (first floor/second floor) hydronic forced air system with central air conditioning. It has two electrical services with ample room for expansion.
